Bride’s name: Jessica Sidney Jamii de Kock
Groom’s name: Robert Lance Steyn
Rob and Jess met in 2011 at a pub quiz. At that stage both had partners, but it was only in 2012 that they became reacquainted. Jess, now single, needed a flatmate and as it went so did he. They moved in together and one thing led to another. They started dating in November that year and by April 2013 had both decided they wanted to tie the knot. Four months later the couple got engaged and were married 13 months later. “People said it happened very quickly, but when you know, you know,” says Jess.
Wedding date: 06/09/2014

Wedding colours: Seafoam, blush and fuchsia
Wedding city/town: Nelspruit
Wedding planner: Anene Veldsman, Miss Tulip
“After the engagement high, I realised I had to get my into gear and plan this wedding. I enlisted the services of Anene. She is a family friend and I have been to a number of her weddings. I could think of no one else who I’d want at my side to help plan the wedding,” shares Jess.
While looking online at numerous sights and images, Jess came across the image that would inspire her whole wedding. “I utterly loved the colour combo and how soft it was. What also made me very happy was that I had been wanting flowers in season and of the Lowveld so the succulents really caught my eye.”
The green of the plants was a nice tie-in with the wedding favours. “I wanted to play on the mint colouring and that Rob and I were meant to be. Hence: mint to be. We had mints in pretty boxes at each place seating with the tag ‘mint to be’.”

Jess says personal touch which she really loved were the books on the tables. “I am a bibliophile, through and through so having old books on the tables was special.”

Jess wanted her school chaplain to marry them, which was quite special. He had already left her high school, so the resident one, Rev Michael Stone took his place. “It was quite special. And he even had a good laugh when we played ‘The Final Countdown’ by Europe down the aisle. Such a gem.”

Jess’ advice to brides-to-be: “People don’t tell you this but eat that morning. The bride eats nothing at the wedding. The build-up is incredibly intense, and then before you know it, the day is over. Savour it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime- thing, so do it properly. Remember to breathe, smile and enjoy yourself. And pack flats in. There’s a lot of dancing done!”
