Athletes complete final preparations for interhigh 2016

Ahead of the annual interhigh athletics, seven Lowveld took to the track and field over the weekend.

Ahead of the annual interhigh athletics, athletes from seven Lowveld schools gave it their all on the track and field this past Saturday.

Interhigh 2016 takes place at Hoerskool Lydenburg this coming Saturday.

Aside from the hosts, the top athletes from Lowveld High School (LHS), Bergvlam, Penryn College, Barberton and Rob Ferreira will participate in the prestigious event.

As part of their final preparation Sybrand van Niekerk, Bergvlam, Curro Nelspruit, Penryn, Uplands, Lowveld High School and the B-team of NHS gave it their all. It was a friendly meeting and schools did not compete against each other.

The extreme heat on the day had no influence on the athletes’ enthusiasm as amazing results were achieved.

Bergvlam’s Leandri Steyn was named senior victrix ludorum and Ruben Buitendag from NHS senior victor ludorum.

The junior victrix ludorum was Jade Croxon from Curro and Penryn’s Jason Mabuza the victor ludorum.

The performances of the day went to Maudas Banda (u/19) from Bergvlam for achieving a distance of 7,44 metres in the boys long jump. Snethemba Ndimane (u/17) from LHS won the girls shot put with a distance of 10,40 metres.

Among the juniors, Padney Mogane (u/15) from Sybrand van Niekerk won the 100 metre sprint for boys in 11,31 seconds, and Bergvlam’s Fezeka Malinga (u/14) won the girls shot put with 10,14 metres.
