Los Pumas confident they can win Rugby Championship

Los Pumas have defeated Australia, New Zealand and South Africa during the 2024 Rugby Championship. They believe they have what it takes to win the championship title.

Los Pumas have the belief that they can win the Castle Lager Rugby Championship at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, September 28.

Argentinian flanker Juan Martín González faced the media at ANEW Resort White River this morning, September 25, and assured the scribes that Los Pumas are up for the challenge against the Springboks. “We have aimed for consistency this Rugby Championship campaign. We have taken it game by game and played some good and some poor rugby. But yes, we believe we can win. We have never won the Rugby Championship. We want to play good rugby. We have been training very hard,” said González.

Los Pumas coach Felipe Contepomi has led the team to their most successful Rugby Championship ever. “He tells us to be ourselves and play our brand of rugby. He has been very good for us.”

Argentinian backline and attack coach, New Zealander Kendrick Lynn, also faced the South African media contingent. “Saturday’s match is going to be a big test for us. Even though we won on Saturday [against the Boks in Argentina], there is a championship on the line. I fully back the guys. So can we do it? Absolutely,” said Lynn.

“With the way we play, if we can win enough ball we will give ourselves the chance to score tries. If we can challenge South Africa’s defence, we can create scoring opportunities. The boys have so much passion for the jersey and their country. They have values and know who they are and who they represent. Felipe speaks about being brave, being ourselves, playing freely. He gives the players licence to be decision-makers, to have a go on the field if they see any space. The players are not restricted by game plans.”

The Los Pumas match 23 will be announced tomorrow, September 26.
