The Hazyview Karate Dojo team won 12 medals at the Karate Lowveld Championship recently held in White River.
Among the top contenders with 48 points, this team were rewarded with six gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
Sensei Sandra Jansen van Vuuren of the Hazyview Dojo said she is very proud of her team for earning these medals, as it shows the dojo is growing and her students are not wasting their time when they attend the classes.

“The achievement was beyond my and the entire karate family in the Hazyview area’s expectations. I am encouraged to continue with the classes because now I have proof that we are doing something positive in the community. I would like to congratulate all the winners; they have made us proud,” she said.
Six dojos (clubs) from Mbombela, White River, Sabie, Hazyview, Skukuza and Lydenburg participated in the championship, in two main categories – kata, (a display or sequence of basic karate techniques against two or more imaginary opponents) and kumite, in which each participant engages in controlled fights against all opponents in their category.
The Hazyview winners were Lefika Mashego, Jurgens Lubbe and Sensei Rohan Louw, who all bagged gold and silver medals, while Armand Bekker, Renato Rabe and Jacqui Winwood each won gold and bronze.
