Teenage Team Peanut & Raisin show how it’s done in Panorama Tour

The stages included steep hill climbs in the White River and Sabie areas.

The teenage riders of Team Peanut & Raisin, made up of Meghan Botha from Mbombela and Helen Olwage from Tshwane, finished second in the annual Panorama Tour.

The 2024 Panorama Tour was held in honour of the late Oom Hendrik Wagener over the Women’s Day long weekend.

The four-day road cycle event was one of the many events organised by Oom Hendrik’s H&A Toere for the past 14 years. Oom Hendrik passed away on July 15.

The stages started and finished at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre outside White River, and included Sabie and the Long Tom Pass.

Stage 1 (112km) was held on Friday August 9, followed by stage 2 (80km) on Saturday, stage 3 (104km) on Sunday, and a 30km time trial on Monday.

The Panorama was a two-rider team event, attracting road cyclists from all over South Africa.

Hoërskool Nelspruit pupil Meghan (16) made the Lowveld proud, with her teammate, Hoërskool Waterkloof learner Helen (17), in the women’s open event.
