Netball and soccer action at Mbombela Stadium on Mandela Day scores big for sisters

Seven-a-side netball and soccer teams took each other on in a festive spirit.

The second annual Mandela Day Corporate Netball and Soccer Tournament was held at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday, July 18. The purpose of this event was to raise funds for the Sesi Lomkhulu (Big Sister) Foundation.

Sesi Lomkhulu is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2014, and operates from Woodhouse, Mataffin, and its main purpose is to create an environment for girls to thrive, inspiring them to become sesi lomkhulus in their community. The foundation executes its purpose by providing their 70 beneficiaries, aged 11 to 23 years, with the following:
• A mentor assigned to a group of girls
• Monthly toiletry packs
• Exposure to various female role-models and different industries
• Assistance with study aides, tutors and educational resources
• Career guidance, assistance with tertiary application fees, and registering them at tertiary institutions
• Holiday programmes
• Food parcels where required
• Social welfare and counselling in collaboration with Child Welfare Nelspruit.
