Rikus Nel of the Barberton Golf Club took home one of the most coveted amateur trophies in South Africa when he won the NKP Consultants Jock
Open Championship at Mbombela Golf Club on Sunday.
The Subaru Southern Africa Jock of the Bushveld Tournament is being played at the club from May 7 to 13.
The Jock Open was reduced from 36 to 18 holes due to the thunderstorm that came down shortly after the first round was concluded.

Nel was in sublime form on the morning. His gross score of 66 included seven birdies, nine pars and two bogeys.
Justin van Dyk of Witbank Golf Club was second on 71.
Pilgrim’s Rest Golf Club’s Austin Mashego was third on 72.
Rob McLagan of Mbombela Golf Club and Nel tied for the nett competition first place, both with a score of 66. But McLagan was awarded the Jock trophy.
The third nett place went to Herman Potgieter of Mbombela Golf Club on 67.
