Pro golfer Thriston Lawrence has been invited to the second Major of the year, the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York State.

It will be played from May 18 to 21.

The tournament will be the Laerskool and Hoërskool Nelspruit alumni’s second major.

Lawrence finished tied 42nd in the British Open at St Andrew’s in July 2022.

The former Lowvelder is currently ranked 29th on the DP World Tour and 95th in the world.

Lawrence will compete in the DS Automobiles Italian Open at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome from Thursday May 4.

“Grateful to be in Rome this week after the first quarter of the year was full of ups and downs. Very excited for everything that’s coming up, including the PGA Championship.

“I sustained a thumb injury earlier in the year, pushed through, took some time off over Easter, spent time with family, went fishing, and got to play a few local Sunshine Tour events.

“What an honour to be doing what I love, with the support of friends and family,” Lawrence said on his Facebook page.

Lawrence has won three DP World Tour titles in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the Joburg Open, the European Masters and the South African Open.
