Another Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys/Lowvelder Golf Day for the books

This year's field was the biggest ever at a Du Toit Smuts Golf Day.

The 22nd annual Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys/Lowvelder Golf Day was a smash hit once again as a record number of golfers took to the greens in the name of charity.

Held at Mbombela Golf Club last Friday, it marked the 25th anniversary since the first Du Toit-Smuts golf day was held in 1999, and the 22nd edition, as a few have been missed over the years. Of these 25 years Lowvelder has been a proud partner of the golf day for over a decade.

The Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys/Lowvelder Golf Day is, therefore,p an institution at Mbombela Golf Club, too, as it is the second-oldest running golf competition at the club, second only to the legendary Jock of the Bushveld.

No fewer than 42 four-balls and 168 golfers took part this year in support of three charities – Laeveldrus, the Dasha Foundation and Huis Betlehem. These numbers make it the biggest Du Toit-Smuts golf day yet, and by extension the most successful, too, as all tee boxes were sponsored as well.
For the 2024 edition, the format was a four-ball alliance with two scores to count, along with a scramble drive. The weather did its part, with no clouds in the sky and little to no wind. But this did make for a rather hot day out.
The golfers didn’t let this faze them, though, and instead saw it as an opportunity to make good use of the numerous watering holes on the course. All of these factors, coupled with great spirit between participants, combined for another truly memorable day.

The skill on show was the only thing as hot as the weather, as some truly eye-watering scores were carded. In third place was the four-ball of Justin van Staden, Dylan Peterson, Hoffmann Maritz and Marius Nel, who bagged themselves 106 points.
Second was Keith Erasmus, Hylton Halfpenny, Marius Kok and Johan Janse van Rensburg, who mustered up 107 points to take the runners-up spot.
But, the winners of the 2024 Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys/Lowvelder Golf Day were none other than first place went to Estie Bessinger, Mary-Ann Braithwaite, Dalene Minnaar and Cyzelle Fincham, who secured top prize with a brilliant 113 points.
While the final tally is still being counted, roughly R150 000 was raised on the day in support of the three charity organisations.
