Thriston retains career-best ranking after tough Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

It is Lawrence’s first finish outside the top 50 at a DP World Tour event since the Genesis Scottish Open in July.

Thriston Lawrence equalled his best-ever finish at an Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this year, finishing tied 54th once more after his final round on Sunday, October 6.

Lawrence had previously finished tied 54th at the same tournament in 2023, and considering he’d been in hot form heading into the week, he would have undoubtedly hoped for a better outcome this time around. He started the week off at the Old Course at St Andrews with an opening round of 68, getting things going at four under par.

From there he carded a two-under second round of 70 to move to six under, ensuring he had a spot on the weekend roster. Lawrence went one better on moving day, going three under and standing in tied 58th ahead of the final day. Another two-under round of 70 in the fourth and final round moved him up to tied 54th, the same as his previous best Alfred Dunhill Links finish in 2023.

His score of -11 for the tournament is his best-ever to par at the Alfred Dunhill Links, though, and will still be encouraging for the 27-year-old Lowvelder.

Lawrence maintains his spot at 46th in the Official World Golf Rankings and is in the process of preparing for the 2024 FedEx Open de France, which starts on October 10.
