Fans who are attending the Battle of Mbombela when the Argentinians come to town later this month will have a chance to give back to the rugby community they so dearly love.
In a press release issued by the South African Rugby Union (Saru) on Tuesday, August 27, they announced that for the last three home tests in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, ‘kit drops’ will be set up for members of the public.
The aim behind these drops is for people attending the matches to help grow the next generation of rugby players by donating previously loved boots, balls, kit and equipment.
The first kit drop was set up at Emirates Airline Park for the first test against New Zealand last weekend, August 31, and the second will be set up at DHL Stadium this weekend for the second clash with the All Blacks. Finally a kit drop will also be set up at Mbombela Stadium for the test against Argentina on September 28.
According to the Saru press release, all donations will be refurbished and redistributed to underprivileged communities with the aim of aiding children and grassroots clubs.
Each item donated will also be assigned a unique number that allows the donor to be entered into a lucky draw to stand a chance of winning a jersey that has been signed by the South African Rugby Legends Association.
Fans are urged to be on the lookout for the match day collection points. The details of the exact location for the Mbombela drop-off will be announced closer to the time.
In terms of tickets remaining at Mbombela Stadium for the clash with Argentina, 95% of the tickets have already been sold and the match is on the verge of becoming the first SA vs Argentina test in South Africa to sell out.
