At the second attempt, Lowveld Nomad Bowls successfully hosted their fourth charity fundraising outing in the past year, and held their 17th annual general meeting, which had both been postponed from July.
“Even at this juncture we had our reservations, as we were competing with the MLBA Singles playoffs in Ermelo, so the turnout of 48 bowlers from far and wide greatly exceeded our initial expectations,” Chris Colverd, president of Lowveld Nomad Bowls, said.
“The magnificent winter weather continued unabated as we contested two games of trips, each with different team combinations and opponents, over ten ends, separated by tea and the AGM. The two LVCC greens are in wonderful condition, running beautifully, thanks to greenkeeper Dave Jones and his crew!”
When it was all over, everyone retired to the clubhouse for much-needed refreshments, and to listen to the beneficiary of the day, the CEO of GRIP, Tarryn Lokotsch, explain the rationale and modus operandi of the organisation.
The Nomad bowlers contributed to GRIP’s future wellbeing, with a table-load of donations of feminine hygiene products, as well as raised funds through a very well-supported raffle of a large hamper, two numbers boards, and an auction of a wildlife canvas of a southern yellow hornbill. “Thanks once again to Stan Stanton for his very persuasive personality as the auctioneer.”
Then, finally the day concluded with prize-giving, handing out the day’s prizes, as well as the Nomads’ annual awards.
“Thanks also to those who made financial donations to what transpired to be a most wonderfully successful day of lawn bowls, camaraderie and fundraising. Heartfelt gratitude must finally be accorded to our most-dedicated and hard-working committee, without whom none of this would have been possible. We look forward to our Christmas outing in early December when we will have a very hard act to follow.”
