Mbombela’s Ruan Groenewald readies for eSwatini Challenge

Ruan Groenewald, an Mbombelan resident and member of the Mbombela Golf Club, is rearing and ready to go at the Nkonyeni Lodge & Golf Estate in eSwatini, ahead of yet another Sunshine Tour event in his rookie season this weekend.

Mbombela local Ruan Groenewald (25) has had a largely positive start to his rookie Sunshine Tour season, and will be travelling to the Kingdom of eSwatini this weekend to take on the FNB eSwatini Challenge.

Groenewald has been selective with the events he has participated in, playing in three Sunshine Tour events so far this season as well as one event co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and Big Easy Tour. He has made the cut two out of the four times, but has still been playing consistent golf.

His most recent tournament came at the SunBet Challenge – Wild Coast tournament, where he unfortunately missed the cut, having stood on six-over-par after the second round. However, Groenewald is determined to climb further up the Sunshine Tour Fortress Rookie of the Year rankings this week.

He currently lies seventh on the Rookie of the Year rankings, and is already in eSwatini at Nkonyeni Lodge & Golf Estate, having begun preparations for the FNB eSwatini Challenge. He and his fellow golfers will tee off at Nkonyeni on Thursday August 1.
