The Airlink Pumas will face the Sigma Lions in the second round of the Carling Currie Cup tomorrow (Wednesday).
The match will be played at Emirates Airlines Park and kicks off at 15:30.
There are seven changes to the Pumas starting team that played the Vodacom Bulls last Friday. Three are injury enforced.
Pumas’ director of rugby, Jimmy Stonehouse, has made an interesting call with Ruan Kramer promoted to the starting XV at loose-head prop and Corné Fourie moving to hooker. IG Prinsloo retains his place at tight-head.
This tactical switch, according to Stonehouse, has been made after the Pumas battled in the scrums and with lineout throws against the Bulls
Shane Kirkwood picked up an injury against the Bulls and is replaced by Malembe Mpofu.
Phumzile Maqondwana, the 2021 player of the year, will captain the team in the place of the injured Willie Engelbrecht. He also replaces Khwezi Mafu who will be on the bench. Kwanda Dimaza will don the number eight jersey.
In a straight swap, Lucky Dlepu will start at scrum half with Giovan Snyman warming the bench.
Ali Mgijima replaces the injured Robbie Petzer at inside centre.
The Pumas lost their opening match at home last Friday. The Vodacom Blue Bulls outplayed the Pumas 33-19.
The Lions faced DHL Western Province at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday and lost 48-36.
Neither team can afford to lose another match.
The Pumas beat the Lions twice in the 2021 Currie Cup. They smashed the Joburg team 39-10 at home on the opening weekend of last year’s Currie Cup and then won away, 36-33, on July 30, 2021.
