Springboks vs All Blacks confirmed for Mbombela Stadium

The biggest rivalry in international rugby will be coming to the Lowveld

MBOMBELA – The Castle Lager Rugby Championship match between the Springboks and the All Blacks will be played at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday September 26.

This was confirmed by SA Rugby this afternoon.

Come September it will have been six years since the Springboks last won a home match against New Zealand. That victory was at Emirates Airline Park on October 4, 2014.

The Boks have played three matches and won three at Mbombela Stadium.

In 2013 they defeated Scotland 30-17 and in 2014 beat Wales 31-30.  In 2016 South Africa played their home Rugby Championship match against Argentina at Mbombela Stadium and won 30-23.

The Springboks’ away 2020 Rugby Championship match against the All Blacks will be played on Saturday September 5 at Eden Park in Auckland. This will be the first match between the two countries since the Rugby World Cup group stage game which the New Zealanders won 23-13.

The Springboks will begin defending their Castle Lager Rugby Championship title with a match against Argentina at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Saturday August 8.

The away match against the Pumas on Saturday August 15 is then followed by a visit to Australasia for the away fixtures against the Wallabies on  August 29 and the All Blacks, before the Boks return to South Africa for two home fixtures.

Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria will host the Springboks’ clash against the Wallabies on September 19.

The highly-anticipated test against the All Black will take place a week later in Nelspruit.

“There is a huge amount of excitement among our fans to watch the Springboks live in action again in our own backyard and this year’s home schedule will give them just that, starting with a farewell to DHL Newlands in the first Test against Scotland, a historic clash with Georgia before the defence of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship gets underway and we finish off by taking the All Blacks to the Lowveld for the very first time,” said SA Rugby CEO, Jurie Roux.

Details on ticket sales will be announced shortly.
