Lowveld equestrians end Sanesa 2019 on high note

The South African National Equestrian School League's national championships came to an end this past weekend after a long week of competition from horse riders from across the country.

Two local nine-year-old riders finished in the top five category for riders grade one to three. Paiton du Plooy (Curro Nelspruit), riding her pony Smartie Pants, came second with Mia Tinkhoff (Laerskool Bergland) on Prince Valiant coming fifth.

The top riders were chosen on their points accumulated in the events they competed in.

Taylor Dedekind was nationally placed second in her grade 12 category. Other riders who ended the week on a high note include Nicole Raba on Legato’s Legacy.

She had a 12th place in a strong working hunter class, and ended up in the top 20 in all her other classes.

The two Whyte sisters, Jessica (Uplands College) and Kyra (Summerhill Prep) also had a good nationals. Jessica ended with a 13th place in the 1,1-metre high school jumping, and little sister Kyra a fourth in her 1,1-metre jumping.

Michelle Groenewald, with her pony Caramello, also ended up in the top 20 in her classes.
