Toughest race on tar kicks off today

The annual PPS Panorama Tour for teams of two cyclists takes place in Mpumalanga from June 15 to 18.

South Africa’s “Toughest Race on Tar” is back. The annual PPS Panorama Tour for teams of two cyclists takes place in Mpumalanga from June 15 to 18.

This popular four-day race covers a total of 320 kilometres of tough terrain, which includes 6 400 metres of ascent via the legendary mountains of Mpumalanga, including Kaapmuiden and Spitzkop and parts of the Long Tom Pass.

“The PPS Panorama Tour is about defying the odds, and specially designed for individuals who are passionate about cycling and like to work as a team to achieve a common goal. This speaks directly to the ethos of mutuality that PPS operates under,” said Ayanda Seboni, PPS executive of brand, marketing and communications. “The concept of mutuality is mirrored by the PPS Panorama Tour, because the race participants ride in teams of two.”

Since its inception 14 years ago, the event has been growing in leaps and bounds every year, bringing the joy of stage riding to more cyclists from all walks of life. Building on the 2018 revamped routes, the PPS Panorama Tour this year will take place over three stages, and start and finish each day at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, White River.

Registration and late entries for participants will take place today, from 14:00 to 20:00 at Casterbridge.

All riders who enter the event will receive complimentary goody bags, and riders who complete the race will receive medals at the end of each day.

Participants will be required to carry their valid Cycling South Africa licence or proof of provincial affiliation at the registration desk. If they do not have a licence, they will be able to purchase one at the registration venue.
