Curro Nelspruit shows their mettle in regional sevens

The regional competition is held on an annual basis and consists of six different Curro schools from the northern provinces.

Curro Bankenveld hosted the inter-Curro regional sevens rugby competition on Saturday. The regional competition is held on an annual basis and consists of six different Curro schools from the northern provinces.

The high school competition was held for the u/15 and u/18 age groups, and Curro Nelspruit once again showed their abilities on the rugby fields.
The u/15s started the day with a strong display over Curro Secunda. The match was one-sided from the start, with Tenzin Favard regaining the kick-off and going in to score after five seconds. The Nelspruit players were dominant and managed to score 75 points in only 14 minutes.

They continued this form in the second match and ran in 36-0 against Northern Academy from Polokwane.
In the third match the team from Nelspruit ran up against the in-form team from Heuwelkruin, and lost 19-12 in the last minute.
They wrapped up the last match of their day with a solid 42-0 victory over hosts Bankenveld.
In the senior competition, the u/18 boys won four out of their five matches.

The u/18 team from Nelspruit started off their day with three relatively comfortable wins of 44-0, 48-0 and 41-0 over Karino, Secunda and Northern Academy respectively. Their fourth match was against a very physical Heuwelkruin team. It was a bruising match, in which the Nelspruit boys were competitive, but Heuwelkruin dominated the collisions and their fast outside backs created scoring opportunities. Heuwelkruin ran out 10-0 winners on this occasion.
Curro’s last match of the day was against hosts from Bankenveld. Here the visiting team picked themselves up from the previous loss and showed good skill, winning 38-5.

Curro Nelspruit’s played against Curro Hazeldean from Pretoria on Saturday. A match report will be published in Friday’s Lowvelder.
