Sunbirds ready to blitz the court

On Friday the Mpumalanga Netball Association unveiled the team that will represent the Mpumalanga Sunbirds ahead of the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League.

Experienced former South African u/23 player, Lentsa Motau will captain the side.

“It is a brand-new year, which means a brand-new Sunbirds team. I can confidently say the team is mentally and physically prepared for this season and we are going to work hard to make sure we don’t disappoint our province,” said Motau.

SPAR Lowveld will, for the second year, join hands as sponsor for the Sunbirds.

“We are committed in giving back to the community. It is an honour to be part of the launch. We are privileged to be part of the Sunbirds. Girls, go out there and make us proud!” said Nikki Laubscher, events and sponsorship coordinator, SPAR Lowveld.

Manager of sports development of the City of Mbombela Local Municipality, Ronnie Mthethwa said on behalf of the City, they wish the players all the best.

“Represent us well. There has been a lot of improvement surrounding the team. We will look out for you.”

President of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane wished the team all the best of luck. It was her first visit to the province.

“I want to acknowledge everyone that is here. Without SPAR, netball is nothing. Those of you that know me, know that I speak from the heart. Play to the best of your ability that God has given you. Nothing beats commitment, hard work and respect. Brutal Fruit is the flagship of netball. The ball is in your court.”
