Promising start to young athletes’ season

Banele Shabanga was among the successful contenders at Hoërskool Barberton's interhouse athletics meeting.

The 15-year-old was presented with the best junior girl trophy for her performances on track and field.

Teammate, Lindelane Maseko (u/15), topped the Absa point scale with 848 in long jump while, Lamar Bonini (u/15), also bagged more than 800 points in the 100 metres.

The grade nines were crowned the winners of the day, followed by the grade eight Daisies and the grade 11s.
This year marks the 68th annual Mediclinic Interhigh Athletics.

On Saturday February 18 close to 3 000 pupils, 1 065 athletes and 1 802 spectators will form part of this year’s theme, Lowveld Galaxy.

Barberton will host this year’s athletic spectacular.
