The #EggChallenge – fun activity or waste of food?

Easter is upon us and although under lockdown, people have come up fun activities to keep themselves busy.

The #EggChallenge was trending on Easter Sunday on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The challenge asked participant to break an egg with their biceps or drink an egg, eat sugar and then drink alcohol.
The participant then challenged other individuals to do the same.

Although this was seen as a fun activity, there are those who disagreed.

The reasoning; the world is in dire need of food and this is not the time to be wasting it.

Tarina Coetzee posted on her Facebook page, “The egg challenge is a terrible waste of food in a time when many people have nothing to eat”.

Richard Van Zyl responded on her post and said, “I couldn’t agree more. It’s flaunting in the face of adversity.”

While the anger of some is due to food is being wasted, others felt that the challenge in itself was disgusting.

“Ridiculous. I last drank raw eggs in smoothies when practicing for half marathons. If someone tags me in something like that, I’ll block them,” Jeanette Claassens commented.
