No injuries reported after a fire and infrastructure collapse at Skukuza Rest Camp

A bungalow caught fire while part of a guest house collapsed.

A part of Nyathi Guest House in Skukuza Rest Camp collapsed on the Sunday night, October 14.

This is according to a social media alert posted by the SANParks.

The guest house was earmarked for renovation prior the incident.

“A piece of concrete slab collapsed. Fortunately no one was injured. The incident is being investigated and the guest house will be removed from the inventory until after planned renovations have taken place. The guests that were occupying the guest house at the time have been moved to alternative accommodation for the duration of their stay,” said the statement.

In a separate incident, a bungalow at the camp recently caught on fire as a result of an unattended braai.

The fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the structure as well as personal belongings of the occupants. No one was injured.

SANParks has appealed to their guests to take extra precautions and not leave any fires unattended, especially with the ongoing heatwave and windy weather.
