The Power of 8000 (TPO8000) group spearheaded a huge clean-up along the R40, just north of the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, on October 5.

This latest cleaning campaign saw a collaboration between the TPO8000, the NG Kerk’s youth, the White River Youth Forum, the Uplands Community Service volunteers and various local businesses and community organisations.

According to Lisa Gordon-Davis of TPO8000, the campaign’s main aim once again was to keep the town clean for its residents and visitors.

The clean-up saw more than 50 people from diverse community groups, including local vendors, working together to tackle the severe litter problem along the road.

“The participants braved the heat, equipped with sunscreen, hats and gloves, to remove thousands of beer bottles and other debris thrown from passing vehicles. The result was an impressive eight bakkieloads of rubbish, which was transported to the local transfer station,” she said.

The cleaning team started at 14:00 and worked until 16:30.

The high turnout and community spirit during the day highlighted the strong commitment of White River residents to keep their environment clean and beautiful. “What made this clean-up even more special was the fact that even the mealie vendors along the R40 joined the efforts, illustrating what can be achieved when everyone comes together to improve their surroundings,” Gordon-Davis said.

The Power of 8000 White River extended its heartfelt gratitude to all who participated and supported this initiative. The group hopes this will inspire ongoing community involvement and responsibility towards keeping White River clean and safe for everyone.
