Building in Rocky Drift burns down
An adjacent veld fire spread to the building in Rocky Drift between White River and Mbombela.
A building in Rocky Drift belonging to Manni Daeveiro burnt down today, October 7.
With no water in the area to extinguish the flames, wooden pallets in the building added more fuel to the fire that started in an adjacent veld. By the time the fire brigade from Mbombela arrived, the building had been destroyed by the fire.

Despite a helicopter being deployed to provide aerial assistance, the fire quickly spread and engulfed five vehicles and equipment to the value of more than R2m.

“The fire could have been avoided if there was water in area because we tried to stop the fire but there was nothing we could do. We had to wait for the fire brigade from Mbombela. But by the time they arrived the fire had already engulfed everything,” Daeveiro said.
He said that thankfully no one was injured.
It is not known how the veld fire started.
