White River author launches her first-ever anthology, ‘Insight’
Alisna Slabbert made her debut with this collection of poems written in English and Afrikaans.
A local writer, Alisna Slabbert, launched her first book titled Insight at Pelenechi Manor last Thursday, September 19.
Insight is a collection of poems in Afrikaans and English, published by Mynhardt Publishers.
The launch was attended by locals who were eager to gain some perspective from the book. The attendees also enjoyed a glimpse of Slabbert’s debut when she recited some of the poems. Undoubtedly, many were moved by the words that spoke to the heart and evoked all kinds of warm emotions.

According to the book’s preview, it explores the many facets of love with each poem being a journey, touching on the tender moments of human connection that include loss and the unwavering love of Jesus Christ.
Slabbert uses eloquent language and poignant imagery to capture the essence of Christianity as well.
The book contains 73 poems that she started writing when she met her husband eight years ago.
“A friend inspired me to get the book published and make it available to the public. I thought it would just be a coffee table book for my family. Writing and publishing it is a dream come true.”

Slabbert said the underlying theme of Christianity and love was not planned, but just happened.
“I think being a firm believer in Christ and a reverend came into place. I believe I cannot feel love without Jesus Christ,” she said.

Slabbert also read a piece from another book she will be publishing soon, to entice her readers.
“It is a bit about self-awareness and learning by relating to other people’s stories. The book is in Afrikaans, but will be translated into English,” Slabbert said.
