The Cleaver Award, now into its 19th year, is a prestigious recognition of excellence in South African butcheries.
The award process begins with consumer nominations, allowing customers to recognise their favourite butcheries. From there, the South African Meat Industry Company conducts a comprehensive audit of the top 100 nominated butcheries.
This audit is rigorous, assessing key areas such as food safety, hygiene, value for money, product quality and customer service.
The 2024 audit was especially thorough, covering the entire butchery’s operation rather than just focusing on specific sections, like beef, as had been done in previous years. This holistic approach ensures that only the best butcheries that demonstrate excellence across all criteria receive this esteemed recognition.
Malelane SUPERSPAR fell in the category of meat markets, celebrating excellence in hyper/supermarkets across provinces, with one provincial and national winner.
Winning the 2024 National Cleaver Award means that Malelane SUPERSPAR has excelled in all these aspects, making it a leader in quality and service, a true testament to the high standards they maintain.
Being crowned the national winner in the meat market category goes far beyond just receiving the plaque, it solidifies the reputation as being one of the most outstanding butcheries in the county.
