Kidnapping victim rescued in KaBokweni

One of the perpetrators was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon facing multiple charges.

The Nelspruit Flying Squad rescued a kidnapping victim and recovered a hijacked vehicle, leading to the arresting a 45-year-old suspect at about 23:30 on Sunday, September 22.

According to a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the police officers were on patrol on the N4 when they received information from a tracking company about a vehicle that was reportedly hijacked.

“SAPS members as well as the tracking team followed the information and located the vehicle in KaBokweni. They found three suspects who jumped out of the vehicle and fled. They managed to rescue the victim who was found with his hands tied up.”

Mdhluli said the police searched the surrounding area for the perpetrators, managing to corner one suspect and arrested him.

“In his possession, the suspect reportedly had the victim’s cell phone. He is facing several charges, including car hijacking, kidnapping and robbery.”

Mdhluli said the man is expected to appear in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court soon.

The police are continuing to hunt for the remaining perpetrators and urge anyone with information on their whereabouts to call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send information via the My SAPS App.
