Traversing the picturesque Lowveld on vintage wheels
Local vintage car lovers had a chance to enjoy some of the vehicles that were exhibited during the Highveld Old Motor Club’s tour in the Lowveld.
The Highveld Old Motor Club delighted local vintage car lovers during their tour of the Lowveld region on September 14 and 15.
The club, including some of the founding members, departed from BUCO Middelburg to Belfast after having coffee and breakfast on Friday, September 13.
Their first stop on Saturday was BUCO Nelspruit for breakfast before heading to Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, where they enjoyed other vintage cars and motorcycles on display in the museum. The club wished Casterbridge Museum a long and prosperous future to remind the new generation of the development of road transport, which they believe is taken for granted today.

On Sunday, the members drove to Pilgrim’s Rest for coffee, before heading to the nearby Graskop to enjoy some pancakes. The iconic lift at the Graskop Gorge presented a unique thrill and some of the braver members even walked across the hanging bridges. On Monday, the group visited Herman and Mary Nel’s vintage vehicle museum on a farm between Mbombela and White River, with its precious collection of old classics. Before returning home, they made a detour to Barberton to view the beautiful mountains.

Everyone who was part of this trip spoke of the convivial spirit among the members. They thanked the sponsors for their donations.
For the Highveld Old Motor Club’s members, they would never lose the pleasure they derive from their vintage wheels and they were all in agreement that the Lowveld would remain one of the most beautiful tourist spots.
