Aspiring embroiderers learn from the best in Mbombela

These are not just ordinary embroidery classes and they are open to anyone who wants to learn a new skill or even experienced embroiderers who want to learn some new methods.

Valencia Wholesalers hosted an embroidery class on Saturday, September 14, with women from all over Mbombela coming together to learn from local embroiderer, Athena Grobler.

Grobler is renowned for her ability to do different types of embroidery using a needle, wool and cloth. The attendees were shown different methods of continuing this age-old trend, which has never lost its appeal.

According to the organiser, Colleen van den Bergh, the main purpose of these classes is to teach anyone embroidery skills. “It is not just any ordinary class. We want those who attend to start their own businesses or make their own household decorations, while making some extra money. We also want people to use their hands, especially when they cannot afford to buy an expensive machine.”
