Music is in my DNA, says popular Komatipoort vocalist

Eloff was raised by parents who are passionate about music, and this passion has driven him throughout his musical career.

Music has been engraved in Hannes Eloff’s life from an early age, igniting a fire that still burns fiercely.

Eloff was born in Pretoria and briefly moved to the USA before settling down in Komatipoort.

He says his story is the epitome of the phrase, ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’.

“I grew up in a house with parents who are both into the classical arts of opera and both are vocal coaches. My mother is also trained in piano and she continues to give piano and flute lessons. Growing up in a house that was dominated by music 24/7, it is no surprise that I am also a musician,” he said.

Eloff is a member of a two-man band called Zondagkraal. He is the vocalist while his friend, Smith Roelf Fritz, composes the songs.

“A few years ago I was the lead singer of a local band in Komatipoort and enjoyed every moment of it, but with the birth of my child at the great age of 40, I decided to take a long break. It was two years ago when my best friend Fritz managed to convince me after a few drinks that it would be a good idea to get back into music again. With him writing the lyrics and me gelling the melodies, it has been a great journey.”

The band has since released a total of 12 songs, including the catchy single titled ‘Katryn’.

According to Eloff, his fans can look forward to new music being released this summer.

“We are currently busy with a few new songs of which the recording will start at the beginning of September. We are quite excited to see what the sound will be like when finished as we are still playing around with sounds and genres. Our songs are available on all music streaming platforms and we’re also on social media.”
