Imerys Annesley Mine hands over school in Burgersfort

The construction of this school project started in November 2023, and will offer Segorong's learners a chance to study in a conducive environment.

A newly constructed Segorong Primary School in Praktiseer, Burgersfort, was officially handed over to the Limpopo Department of Education (DoE) on September 5. The school now boasts eight state-of-the-art classrooms erected by the Imerys Annesley Andalusite Mine.

The handover ceremony was attended by the senior management of Imerys, the Limpopo DoE, the Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources and representatives of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality.

This project started in 2019 after Imerys had committed to the Limpopo DoE to replace the school’s infrastructure as part of the Segorong Village residents’ relocation to Tubatse Ext 15 in Praktiseer.

“Site establishment and construction work started in November 2023. Dedicated school construction and technical committees were selected and included members of the school governing body, Segorong Trust and Imerys representatives. Imerys also appointed a local project-community liaison officer for the duration of the construction,” said the company’s Xoliswa Mvinjelwa.

The chairperson of Imerys Annesley Mine, Phillip Bourg, delivers a message.

Handing over the school, Imerys’s chairperson, Phillip Bourg, said the new school will not only afford pupils an opportunity to learn in a conducive environment, but will also inspire them to compete with other learners globally.
