As Summerhill Preparatory School in Hazyview follows the Singapore Science Curriculum, the Grade Threes covered the topic of electricity in the third term.
Through this, they looked at different sources and uses of electricity and how to use it safely. During the classes, they discussed the difference between an electrical source and an appliance.

To make this more practical for the learners and to teach them how to identify different objects that are reliant on electricity in everyday life, a tour was taken around the school. Their first task was to identify these sources and appliances, write them down and draw an accompanying picture.

Different objects were discussed and the children were prompted to communicate with their friends to decide whether it was a source or appliance and give the reasons why. After the practical activity, there were questions to answer about the collected information.
The learners thoroughly enjoyed this and surprised their teacher, Danelle van Heerden, with their enthusiasm, communication skills and ability to process information.
Summerhill Prep believes in making learning fun and in this way, ensuring the learners retain information better than merely studying textbooks.
