Melodic notes fill chapel in aid of Lowveld Hospice

The Lowveld Chamber Music Association delivered an enticing concert to give back to the community.

The Lowveld Chamber Music Association (LCMA) delivered an enchanting Sunday afternoon of melodic music performed by the Lowveld’s talented choral groups, featuring Kirsten Blair, a soprano and soloist from Alaska.

The You Are the Music Concert was hosted at the Penryn Chapel in aid of Lowveld Hospice. The association’s Walter Fourie said proceeds made from ticket sales were donated to the hospice to support its daily activities.

Blair and the Nocoré Ensemble opened the show with a Mozart original, “Luadate Dominum”, which gave the audience an exciting taste of her crisp soprano. Continuing with Nocoré, they sang “I know I’ve been changed” and “Esurientes”. She stunned the audience with an Afrikaans song solo, “Heimwee”, with Tobias Kruger backing her on the piano.

Some of the solos performed include Janette Rottcher with Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude Op 32. No. 12” on the piano. A Nelspruit Eisteddfod champion, Jacques Bouwer, took on “Bella Siccome un Angelo” smoothly, while another eisteddfod star, Xanthe Jacobs, rendered “Lascia Ch’io Pianga”. Jacques and Xanthe recently won the classical competitive sections for high school boys and girls respectively in the Nelspruit Eisteddfod.

The LCMA had sponsored these sections with a cash prize.

What would a choral show be without the talented Hoërskool Nelspruit Bel Canto Choir and its conductor, Elet Kruger, who together delivered three songs – “Kyrie & Gloria”, “Mohlang ke kgotlelang hae” and “Heuningkrans”.

The show ended off with “You are the music” with Blair as the lead, Rottcher on violin and the Nocoré Ensemble. This ending surely left a lasting and mesmerising moment with the attendees who could not get enough.
