Two people die in accident on N4 near KaNyamazane

Six people were seriously injured and two died in an accident that involved four cars on the N4 on August 23.

Two people died and six sustained critical injuries in an accident that involved four vehicles on the N4 near Duma Country Lodge today, August 23.

According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s (DCSSL) spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, the accident occurred just after 19:00 and involved two sedans, a delivery truck and a light delivery vehicle.

The other sedan’s driver and passenger were both also seriously injured. And the two occupants of the light delivery vehicle sustained critical injuries as well

“The two occupants of one of the sedans collided head-on with the delivery truck and died on the scene, while the driver and passenger of the truck sustained serious injuries. The other sedan’s driver and passenger were both also seriously injured. And the two occupants of the light delivery vehicle sustained critical injuries as well. The six injured were rushed to the nearest hospital in Mbombela,” he said.

Mmusi said a preliminary investigation indicates that one of the drivers overtook when it was not safe to do so.

However, the DCSSL have already launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

“The road was closed while emergency personnel were tending to the injured, assessing the scene and removing the deceased. The road has since been reopened for traffic. We urge motorists to always drive with caution to avoid unnecessary accidents. When drivers are tired, they must stop and rest,” he said.
