Mpumalanga MEC for education urges parents to register their kids for school

The deadline for 2025 school admissions is on Friday, August 30. MEC Dlamini said to avoid disappointment parents and guardians should register their children on time.

There are only eight days remaining to secure your child’s place in Mpumalanga’s public schools for next year.
The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, urges parents and guardians to register their children who are of schoolgoing age at schools in their residential areas before the set deadline. According to the Department of Education (DoE), the registration period for this year started on May 1 and ends on August 30.

On Wednesday, August 21, Dlamini said: “To ensure your child’s admission, please register them at a nearby school to avoid transport related challenges. No child will be denied admission due to inability to pay fees or disagreement with the school’s religious policies.”

According to the DoE, to register a child, parents must request an application form from a school and fill it in. They should also attach copies of their child’s birth certificate, a Road to Health card, study permits, IDs or passports, a proof of residence and copies of their own IDs.

“In the event that a parent, guardian or caregiver is unable to provide the required documentation, the principal of the school must accept alternative proof, such as an affidavit or a sworn statement signed by the parent, caregiver or guardian, wherein the learner’s details are indicated. No learner may be refused admission on the basis that his/her parents are unable to pay school fees or do not subscribe to the religious policy of the school.

“By registering their children, parents will assist the department in planning ahead for the supply of learner and teacher support material and the transfer of paper budgets to schools. I hereby call on all parents and guardians with children of schoolgoing age to proceed to the nearby schools to register their children for the 2025 academic year,” she said.

Dlamini said if parents are not satisfied with a school’s response, they should contact their local circuit office.
