Burgersfort pool player to represent SA in UK

Sello Phala will represent South Africa in the 2024 Blackball International World Championships in October.

Burgersfort pool player Sello ‘Supercharge’ Phala is flying the local flag high.

The ‘Cableman’, as he is known, will represent South Africa in the 2024 Blackball International World Championships/2024 Hawley Cup Championship.

The competition will be held at Bridlington in the United Kingdom from October 11 to 20.

Phala, from Riba Cross, was notified through a letter by the president of Blackball South Africa, Vincent Pillay, on August 6.

Phala thanked his mentor and friend, Master P, for guiding him in becoming one of the best players in Mzansi.

“He fine-tuned me to becoming one of the best players. He turned my game weaknesses into strengths. I am now confident and enthusiastic about representing my country with pride. I am still willing to learn in order to achieve more in this game.”

According to Pillay, blackball championships are recognised by the World Pool Association, are aligned to the International Olympic Committee and will be organised by Blackball International, which is the world governing body for the pool discipline of blackball.

Pillay said about 53 members, including players and officials, will represent South Africa in the competition.

“We will go there to compete with our masters, women, men, seniors, the U15s, U18s and U23s.”
