New Rainbow Market celebrates women

It's a rainbow market for a rainbow nation, which organisers have big plans for.

The Rainbow Market and Premier Hotel The Winkler celebrated the Lowveld’s lasses with a fun Women’s Day market on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10.

“A rainbow market for a Rainbow Nation where everyone is welcome,” is how this market’s owner, Natasha Koekemoer, described the newest one on the Lowveld’s calendar.

Hosted on the hotel’s expansive lawn under a lush canopy of trees with game grazing peacefully and peacocks calling in the distance, the market had a distinctly tranquil feel.

With a bouncy castle for the kids and an array of activities such as paintball, archery, axe throwing, a fashion show and massage parlour in addition to the wide variety of goods, the market offered something for everyone.

Koekemoer said she has big plans for it. Premier Hotel The Winkler invited the Rainbow Market to host it on their premises every second weekend of the month.

She hopes to grow it into a major festival featuring a variety of artists and musicians while offering stall stands that local exhibitors can afford, combined with free entry to the public. Koekemoer also does not believe in restricting similar products from being sold at her market.

“Competition is OK. Everybody puts something of himself in his product, so it will always be unique,” she said.
