SPAR Home-cooked Happiness provides a recipe for joy in 2024

Through this initiative, SPAR continues to engage and inspire those community champions who have been providing warm meals to vulnerable individuals.

In today’s fast-paced world, whipping up a delicious and wholesome home-cooked meal with limited resources can be a challenge.

But SPAR’s Home Cooked Happiness initiative is here to change that. Launched in 2023, this programme aims to reignite the joy of cooking at home by providing the skills and knowledge communities need to create tasty and satisfying meals. The most recent event was held at College Chefs Training and Innovation Academy on Tuesday June 25.

“Our hope is to provide these amazing community champions with a one-day workshop that helps them to best utilise the different ingredients that are available to them, or even from the donated groceries they receive for their centres, for when they need to prepare these special meals that are suited for kids, young adults and the elderly on a nutritional level. We also wanted to celebrate these champions for the work they do by restoring passion for cooking in a different space,” said Bella Mogane, SPAR’s sponsorships and events controller.

“We had absolute fun hosting the various NPOs like Child Welfare Nelspruit, Millennium Home of Hope, GRIP, House of Troy (Indigo Smiles), Children in Distress, Association of and for Persons with Disabilities Mpumalanga, Good Hope Centre and Simunye HBC,” said De Villiers.

“This initiative would not have been possible without our amazing sponsors, Premier FMCG, Chefs Training and Innovation Academy Mbombela, and Tharika M Health,” said Mogane-Jones.
