Tee off for furry friends in need at golf day in Hazyview

Hazyview Pets in Distress will use all the money to make a difference in the lives of animals in need.

The Hazyview Pets in Distress (PID) is calling on local businesses to support its golf day fundraising event for the abused and neglected animals it takes care of, mostly out of its own pockets.

The PID is planning the golf day at Sabie River Sands for August 17. Sponsors can play with friends at R600 per hole and also sponsor or donate prizes for the winning teams.

“All the money collected will help make a difference in the lives of these animals in need. We also need help to fill our wheelbarrow with drinks for a raffle prize. We are going to use the money to feed, medicate, house and sterilise the pets. We also need the funds for capturing and sterilising feral cats,” the organisation said.

The PID aims to provide assistance to animals that are desperately in need of help. This includes sufficient food and water and being kept tick- and flea-free.

The members said most owners generally do their best to ensure their animals are well looked after, but there are those who think that pets are only a means of protection against crime and believe making them more vicious through abuse is acceptable. “No animal deserves to be tied up. They need to be exercised and trained. Nothing fancy, just basic commands,” the PID said.
