Dead baby found at dump site near Komatipoort

A passerby discovered the body and alerted the police.

A body of a newborn was discovered at a dump site at Mjejane near Komatipoort on Sunday July 7 at about 16:20.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the body was spotted by a woman who was passing by the dumping site. She then alerted the police.

“Komatipoort police were summoned to the scene. On arrival, medical practitioners were alerted and also arrived at the scene and declared that the baby was dead. Due to the condition of the child’s body, police could not confirm the child’s gender,” he said

Mdhluli also said police have since instituted an investigation surrounding the child’s death. Currently they cannot confirm if the child was dumped alive or dead.

Police urge anyone who might have information about the child’s mother to contact the Komatipoort standby investigating officer, Sergeant Vusimuzi Thobela, on 072 196 8225.
