SPONSORED | Riverside CID reaffirms its commitment to the youth

The Riverside City Improvement District showed its continued support for the youth during Youth Month.

As part of concluding Youth Month celebrations, the Riverside City Improvement District (CID) has reaffirmed its commitment to the young people of this city.

This organisation believes that by investing in the education, health and entrepreneurial aspirations of the youth, it is building a brighter and more prosperous future for our entire community.

According to the marketing co-ordinator of the CID, Jessica Prim, the Greater Riverside Biodiversity Initiative (GRBI), in partnership with the Expanded Public Works Programme, continues to make significant strides in uplifting the youth. “Through the work of the GRBI, local youth have been employed and trained, gaining valuable skills and work experience that prepare them for future careers. This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to creating sustainable job opportunities and enhancing the employability of our young people,” Prim said.

She added that through the Riverside CID’s Social Investment Foundation, they also aim to facilitate sustainable community welfare and development initiatives. One of the foundation’s funding-ready initiatives is the maths camp for students of the University of Mpumalanga (UMP). “These camps are designed to provide intensive support and enrichment in mathematics, helping students achieve academic excellence and unlock their full potential. By focusing on this critical subject, we aim to equip students with the skills necessary for success in various professional fields,” said Prim.

In addition to academic support, the Riverside CID places a strong emphasis on the health and well-being of young girls in the community. The CID, through the Riverside CID’s Social Investment Foundation, facilitates the distribution of sanitary pads that ensures girls in local schools have access to essential hygiene products, promoting their health, dignity and uninterrupted school attendance. This initiative not only addresses a basic need, but also empowers young women to pursue their education confidently.

Prim further said entrepreneurial development is another key area of focus for the Riverside Foundation, which offers comprehensive courses aimed at nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among young people. “These courses provide aspiring young entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and mentorship needed to start and grow their own businesses. By fostering entrepreneurship, we contribute to economic growth and innovation within our community. Through these diverse projects, Riverside CID is not only supporting the development of our youth, but also advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.”
