No arrests yet for the killings of Bushbuckridge family members

The family of the late Chief Clyde Mnisi has been almost completely wiped out, and no one has been arrested as yet. The police are still searching for the suspects.

The Hazyview police are still searching for the suspects who killed Chief Clyde Mnisi’s sister, Nxalati Nwitheri Nyalungu (35), on June 6.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, no one has yet been arrested for murder of Chief Mnisi himself, his wife Charlene, his two brothers and his sister, who was most recently killed.

He also said the police could not deny nor confirm whether the body discovered in Thulamahashe on June 10 with gunshot wounds was that of an alleged hitman said to have been involved in the killing of Nyalungu, who was shot and killed by unknown gunmen earlier this month.

“The police do not work with assumptions or hearsay, but rely heavily on evidence, and therefore cannot say whether this was one of the suspects wanted in connection with the recent murder of Nyalungu. We cannot confirm or give a statement at this time, because both incidents, the killing of Nyalungu and the discovery of this body, are a subject for police investigation. What I can tell you is that the police are hard at work trying to put together all the pieces of evidence in these cases. We have not arrested anyone yet, but the police are working hard on the ground,” said Mdhluli.

Nxalati was buried in Mkhuhlu on Saturday June 15. The family insisted on not sending any tributes to the media in order to protect themselves from the killers. They are still shattered by what they consider to be assassinations. They said the rest of them now live in fear because they don’t know who’s next on the list. They said they do not know the motive for these killings, and they fear those who killed their relatives will return and kill more of their family members. They pleaded with the police to arrest the perpetrators before anyone else dies and said they will only feel safe again once they know all the suspects are behind bars, and find closure once they know their identities.

With the recent killing of Nxalati, the family of the late Clyde has now almost been wiped out by unknown gunmen. Mdhluli urged members of the community with information that may assist them in solving these cases, to come forward by calling the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or to send information via the My SAPS app.
