Massive donation to victims of shack fire by Pieter Nel Attorneys

The donations included clothes, a brand-new bed, kitchen utensils, pots, blankets, tables and chairs, a stove and many more basic items.

After losing everything in an inferno that tore through her shack, Kedibone Selahle (28) from Alverton in Burgersfort, couldn’t contain her tears of joy when Good Samaritans from Pieter Nel Attorneys knocked on her door with donations.

The firm visited the Selahle family on June 11 to hand over some basic items.
The law firm was moved to action after reading the story titled ‘Family of three loses everything in shack fire’ in Steelburger/Lydenburg News’ May 23 edition.

The Selahle family was excited to receive the gifts.

“When we read about the tragedy, we felt we should do something to make the situation better,” said Pieter Nel.
“We asked our clients and friends for the donations. Some of the people who assisted are Curro Nelspruit, with stationery, Andrew Strumpher with chairs, and employees, friends and family of Pieter Nel Attorneys with other items.”

He added, “We were also driven by our company policy which encourages us to reach out to the community, especially the poor.”

The donations included clothes, a brand-new bed, kitchen utensils, pots, blankets, tables and chairs, a stove and many more basic items. The family was also handed a R3 000 voucher by the company to use at Pep Stores in Burgersfort.

Selahle told the paper that she was struggling to make ends meet after losing everything in the blaze. She initially received some temporary relief from the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality that provided her with blankets.
Other Good Samaritans and local shops have been assisting this family.

A two-roomed house is currently being erected by locals while Kedibone and her kids stay in another shack built by neighbours and friends.
