Some of the speakers were Helene Viljoen, Zanele Singwane, Annelize Maré, John Meintjies, Blessing Sunday, Zani Barrish, Given Ngomane, Sezanele Zondi and Xandra Malapane.

During Viljoen’s presentation on social media do’s and don’ts, she said there are challenges when using social media.

“The rule of thumb of being online is first do no harm. If you are using social media to hurt other people, you are not exercising your right to freedom of expression. We all have the right to freedom of speech, but if you use that right to abuse someone else you are transgressing the borders of what is the expected use of that right.”

Viljoen said if one gets bullied on social media, they should tell someone they trust, and report it on social-media platform as well as the police as it could be considered a crime.

Estelle Roe, the regional leader of the SACBW and organiser of the workshop, said their aim was to empower young people and they made sure there was no repeat of topics when they planned the event.
