Tourists’ safety a priority in the Hazyview area

The Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism deployed a private team of investigators who are working with the police and security patrols to ensure the safety of tourists in the Hazyview area.

The Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) has deployed a private team of investigators, who cannot be identified at this stage, but is working with the police and security patrols to ensure the safety of tourists in the Hazyview area, as of May 3.

Business owners, community members and the police have joined hands to keep the area safe.
This came about after the attack on two Comoran visitors to the area on April 29.

The KLCBT’s COO, Linda Grimbeek, said the deployment of the patrols has yielded positive results.
However, at this stage, she is not in a position to reveal more information.

“Numbi Gate was a huge problem, but after our intervention with the police has yielded positive results and the area is safe now. We will also do the same at Phabeni Gate to make sure that tourists are safe as we are still reviving the tourism sector,” she said.

Meanwhile, local businesses, especially in the tourism sector, said they will not fold their hands and watch criminals destroy their businesses. Instead, they will work with the police and community members to keep the area safe.

“We can guarantee our tourists that the Hazyview area is safe for them. Despite the incident that occurred recently, we will work with the police and trusted community members to ensure the safety of tourists, and we will not allow criminals to take away our business because of their actions,” they said.
They also said they will assist where they can to help the police catch the three suspects who attacked the couple.

Most of the communities are benefitting from local tourism in terms of jobs and selling their products to tourists, as well as village tourism as international tourists visit their homes and learn about their customs. Meanwhile, the Hazyview and Calcutta SAPS confirmed that they will work with all the stakeholders to combat crime and tourist attacks.
