Nelspruit SAPS arrest four people in possession of gold-bearing material

Four men were arrested in Mbombela after they were allegedly found to be in possession of gold-bearing material.

In the early hours of Friday morning, February 23, some Nelspruit police officers arrested four men after they had allegedly been found in possession of gold-bearing material estimated to be worth R503 000.

The Nelspruit Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Zandile Gqawa, said some officers had been conducting patrol duties around the CBD at about 01:45 that morning when they stopped and searched a vehicle along the Old Pretoria Road.

“They found bags full of gold-bearing material, which is estimated to be worth R503 000 in value,” she said.

Gqawa said four men were arrested and were expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday February 26.

The Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority was sent queries about the outcome of the court appearance on February 27, however, no response was received by the time of publishing.
