Kruger Park employee receives treatment after hyena attack

The woman underwent an operation on her hand yesterday, February 22 , following the incident with the hyena that had taken place the day before.

An employee of the Kruger National Park has received medical attention at a hospital in Pretoria after she was bitten in the arm by a hyena.

According to the Kruger National Park’s spokesperson, Ike Phaahla, a specialist diagnosed some fractures in her hand that extended to the articular surface, and an oblique fracture near her elbow.

The woman was bitten as she was asleep in her room in the Berg-en-Dal staff living quarters at about 02:00 on February 21.

“She had her operation last night [February 22] to repair the fractures. She says she is doing well and is very thankful for the good medical care she is receiving. She is in good spirits,” Phaahla said.

He passed on a message of appreciation to everyone who has sent their well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery for the injured woman.
