Multiple shots fired, man robbed in Mbombela

The Nelspruit police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a man was robbed at gunpoint on the night of February 20.

Three suspects reportedly opened fire on a man’s car on the corner of Lost Trail and Ehmke streets late on Tuesday night, February 20, before robbing him.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Captain Magonseni Nkosi, a case of armed robbery has been opened.

Nkosi said three occupants in a VW Polo had tried to stop the victim in his vehicle. “The suspects allegedly fired shots at the complainant’s vehicle, forcing him to stop. He was robbed of his cellphone, money and bank cards. There has been no arrest, but the matter is still under investigation,” he said.

Hi-Tech’s Frank Swanepoel said the company dispatched four vehicles to the corner of Lost Trail and Ehmke after multiple gunshots had been reported on a local WhatsApp security group at about 22:30.

He said Hi-Tech’s responding officers found the vehicle on the corner of these two streets with numerous bullet holes. Swanepoel said no injuries had been reported.
