Escape drama unfolds: Housebreaking suspect pursued and rearrested

A 28-year-old suspect, initially apprehended for housebreaking, made a daring escape from custody in Kwamhlanga. After a brief pursuit, law enforcement managed to recapture him.

On Saturday, February 3, at approximately 10:15 in the morning, a 28-year-old suspect was rearrested after reportedly escaping lawful custody in Kwamhlanga.

Shortly after fleeing, the suspect was apprehended. During the escape, he reportedly jumped a wall, attempting to evade law enforcement.

Upon his rearrest, the suspect was observed to have sustained injuries, leading to his admission to a hospital for medical treatment, under police guard.

Initially arrested for housebreaking in the area, the incident surrounding his escape is under both internal and criminal investigation. The suspect managed to elude the police during a period of administrative duties, with reports suggested an alleged attack on a SAPS member during the escape.

The ongoing investigation aims to reveal full details in due course.

The suspect is set to appear in court soon, facing charges of housebreaking and escaping lawful custody. Authorities are considering the possibility of adding a charge for assaulting a police official.
