Hoërskool Nelspruit deemed the top performing school in Mpumalanga

The Matric Class of 2023 knew their fate as the National Senior Certificate examination results were released on Friday January 19.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education announced the results and the top achievers of the Matric Class of 2023 in a gathering of the learners, their parents, school principals and provincial dignitaries at the University of Mpumalanga on January 19.

Hoërskool Nelspruit is the best overall performing school in the province with a 100% pass rate, and boasts the best overall learner, Niandi Coetzee. She received a brand-new car with cash prizes and the necessary gadgets for tertiary learning.

The deputy minister of basic education, Reginah Mhaule, Hoërskool Nelspruit’s principal, Johan Hattingh and the deputy minister of international relations and co-operation, Candith Mashego-Dlamini.

Khutsalani Secondary School in KaBokweni produced four top learners, some part of the provincial top 10 and best performers in certain subjects.

Two learners from DD Mabuza Comprehensive School in Nkomazi are part of the national and provincial top 10.

During his speech, the MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, congratulated all those who passed making up the 77% pass rate, which is an increase from 76.8% in 2022, and the department for managing an incident-free examination and introduction of the Ubuhlebuzile learning tablets programme to more schools.

“We are fully confident through such results that there is a promising future in our education system. We managed to increase by a fraction, which is better than a decline. The Class of 2023 has clearly demonstrated that through interventions and support, we can make it. Our best regards to the Class of 2024,” Majuba said.
